PROJECTED CONSTRUCTION START: SUMMER 2024

PROJECTED COMPLETION: FALL 2026

There are few moments in our lives where a community can come together to build something bigger than ourselves that will have multi-generational impact.

On Monday, February 26, the membership of the Langley Christian School Society voted 96% in support of the middle school project. Our middle school and high school campuses were built for 75 students per grade and today we have more than 100 in some of our grade 6-12 cohorts. Our buildings were also built in an era with less demands for social emotional learning, meeting and pullout spaces, and there was no required applied design and technology curriculum. Today our middle school students have little access to technology classrooms, dedicated arts and music spaces, and we have offices in what used to be closets. The library is typically full of high school students and middle school access is limited.

Once completed LCS will have capacity for a maximum size of 100-125 students at grades 6-12. This is the “right size” for excellent schools across North America as it is large enough to provide a comprehensive academic and extracurricular program, and small enough to retain community where every student is known and discipled. At this size, LCS will have similar capacity to other Christian schools in our region including Pacific Academy and Abbotsford Christian School.

The new middle school design will include:

  • gymnasium with a high ceiling for volleyball, and wide enough for two full-size basketball courts (90′)
  • dedicated middle years library learning commons
  • “learning stairs” gathering area in the centre of the building for chapels and community building
  • each grade will have its own floor (50,000 sq. ft. 3-story building)
  • middle years appropriate exterior play structures
  • kitchen/foods lab
  • specialized spaces including music room, art room, technology room
  • sufficient meeting spaces and pull-out conference rooms for learning support
  • rooftop outdoor learning and gathering space

Everyone who is inspired to contribute $1200 or more will be recognized with a plaque on a feature wall in the middle of the new building which will tell the story of the school and celebrate our community support for the project. See our Gift Recognition Plan for other opportunities.

I am so moved at God’s abundance over so many generations of LCS. I was so inspired hearing again and remembering the stories of how parents, staff and board members had a vision for this property 20 years ago, that Langley Christian School would eventually build another campus south of the existing elementary school.

DOUG JENSEN, DIRECTOR OF FINANCE & HR

Thank you everyone who came out and voted. Whether you voted yes or no, your feedback was so essential. Our surveys indicated some concerns about bathroom design, so we have directed our architect to produce some alternative solutions based on community feedback. If you would like to connect in person to hear more about the design, please reach out to us.

This project will enable LCS to provide life-changing Christian education for generations in Langley. If you missed the extra-ordinary society meeting, please take some time to watch our presentation video. You’ll hear the stories of visionary parents and leaders in the school 20 years ago who imagined a future LCS with three separate campuses on a single road.

EVERY GIFT IS IMPORTANT

We are accepting one-time gifts or multi-year pledges. Please reach out to development@langleychristian.com for more information about giving and donations.

Having one son graduate in 2022 and launch well as a confident Christian, our family is blessed by the community and education our kids receive here at LCS. We are aware that this school exists because of bold, courageous decisions and generosity that previous generations modelled in faithfulness.

Adam woelders, head of school

We are hopeful everyone will donate and prayerfully consider how they might stretch their resources to support this project and reduce the final amount requiring financing. The goal of our Today Tomorrow Together Campaign is $13,600,000 raised between now and Spring Break 2025. As of March 1, we are just short of $6,000,000 raised so far.
