Every six years, independent schools in British Columbia undergo a comprehensive External Evaluation Committee (EEC) inspection (SEE LINK) conducted by the Ministry of Education. While public schools are not subject to this level of scrutiny, independent schools like Langley Christian School must meet rigorous standards across academics, operations, compliance, and culture to maintain their Group 1 funding status.
This process is much more than a checkbox exercise. The EEC team of experienced inspectors examines everything: curriculum alignment, instructional quality, leadership, financial policies, facilities, safety protocols, inclusive education, accessibility practices, and student support. They visit classrooms, read documents, check student records, inspect lesson plans, analyze data, and ask hard questions during interviews with teachers, administrators and other staff. It’s an accountability process that ensures independent schools not only meet government standards but also live out their stated mission and values. It guarantees the public that independent schools receiving government grants provide evidence that students are learning and thriving, and that we serve the wider good of K-12 education.
This level of accountability is one reason why the independent schools sector in British Columbia is rapidly growing and is now one of Canada’s largest groupings of schools. If considered as a “district,” BC independent schools would be one of Canada’s largest districts in terms of student enrolment and number of schools, a great percentage of which serve disproportionately more numbers of students with learning and social emotional needs. In a Canadian society that values entrepreneurialism, innovation, choice and pluralism, independent schools ensure parents can choose schooling options that best align with what they think best for their child’s future.
We are pleased to share that Langley Christian School received an outstanding report from the Ministry’s inspection team.
“This is a great school for learning, but an even greater school for being.”

School Culture and Student Support
One of the strongest themes in the report was our culture of care:
- Every student is known and supported from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
- Staff see each learner’s unique challenges not as barriers but as “puzzles” to be embraced.
- Teachers work collaboratively, and leadership fosters unity across teams.
- LCS has abundant staffing of qualified, knowledgeable learning support teachers and other specialized positions to support vulnerable learners.
“No one said these kids were too tough. Instead, staff said: ‘This one’s my puzzle – I’ll figure them out.’”

Why Does This Matter?
In an educational landscape where public schools are not subject to the same in-depth reviews, the EEC process provides independent verification that LCS is living up to its promises. It gives our parents, students, and community a strong reason for confidence. The inspection affirms what we learned from our parent/community surveys in June 2025 that resulted in a +61% net promoter score from respondents who were asked “0-10 how likely are you to recommend LCS to friends, family and your neighbours?” Taken together, these reports are an endorsement of our commitment to excellence in serving our community, our Christ-centered mission, and our unwavering focus on what matters most: students who are known, equipped, and connected.
“There’s intentional alignment between mission, leadership, strategy, and student experience.”

The inspection team recommended continued Group 1 funding without hesitation. More than that, they recognized LCS as a model independent school – a place where academics, faith, leadership, and community thrive together. We hope this affirmation encourages you. You’ve entrusted your children to us, and this inspection confirms what many of you already know from experience: Langley Christian School is not just a great school for learning, it’s a great place to belong.
