The Lightning senior girls and boys teams followed up on earlier successes of our athletics program to earn a fifth Eastern Valley Championship, and nearly a sixth. The senior boys reclaimed the Eastern Valley banner beating the ACS Knights 3-0 in the gold medal match.
It was a great night for us. Everything came together from the offence to the defence. We made very few errors and controlled the match from start to finish. Our top players did what top players are supposed to do and elevated their game at the right time of the year. All hands were on deck for this win
ERIC VAN HUIZEN – LCS VOLLEYBALL COACH
The senior boys win followed EVAA championship wins by the grade 8 boys volleyball team, both girls and boys junior teams, and the senior boys soccer team.
The senior girls team coached by alumnus Kara Davis, Lisa Bontkes and MJ Visscher came within points of bringing home another championship shortly after just down the road from where the boys won. The girls went toe-to-toe with cross town rivals, Langley Fundamental and lost in the 5th set, but it was a tremendous showing for this great team of girls. The girls settled for silver but played outstanding volleyball all season.
Both senior teams will compete for a AA championship at the high school provincials from November 30 to December 2. The boys will be playing in Victoria hoping to trade in their 2021 silver medal for an upgrade. The girls will be considered in contention to compete for a medal in Merritt.
