Dear High School Parents and Students:
I trust you are all having a great summer. Just over two weeks from now, however, the new school year will begin. A special welcome to those of you who are new to LCS. Our hope is that your transition into the LCS community will be positive for both parents and students.
Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 7, 2010. Please have your son or daughter here by 8:30am. This will be a full day of classes and students are reminded to bring their lunch and basic school supplies with them. Homeroom lists will be posted in the front lobby. Students will report to their homeroom when they arrive and our opening assembly will begin at 9:00 am in the Middle School gym. Parents are welcome to attend. At the conclusion of the assembly students will return to their homeroom classrooms. Lockers and locks will be issued at that time.
Student photos and ID cards will be taken on Tuesday, September 14.
Parents will have an opportunity to meet the staff and new families on Tuesday, September 21 at 7:30 pm. We will begin the evening in the High School gym to dedicate the year to the Lord. Following that, teachers will be available in their classrooms to meet you and to explain aspects of the program they teach.
Individual timetables will be issued on the first day of school. These schedules are based on choices made last school year and are firm. Any requests for a schedule change must have a legitimate reason such as successful completion of a summer school course and must be made in writing to Mr. Schön. The last day for student or parent initiated schedule changes is Friday, September 24.
Code of Conduct and Attendance Procedures are included in the student planners and will be explained to the students on the first day of school. When the day planners come home, please do take the time to review them with your son and/or daughter. Extra copies of the Code of Conduct are available at school. Please note that we encourage students to leave cell phones and ipods at home since they are a significant distraction to the learning process. We are asking you not to phone or text message your daughter or son during school hours and to call the school office should it be necessary to contact them. We appreciate your cooperation.
A number of student textbooks were not returned at the end of the school year last June. Please urge your son or daughter to hand them in to the library as soon as possible. No textbooks will be issued to students who have not returned all books from the last school year or paid for them.
All tuition payment plan and transportation forms should have been returned to the school by now. If you have not sent your forms, please contact Doug Jensen at 604-533-2118.
In this mailing you will find a High School staff list, which includes the new additions to our Modern Languages Department. Welcome to Cyndi McCarthy, who will teach French and serve as our chapel coordinator, and to Dianna Smith who will teach Spanish for grades 9, 10 and 11. You will also find a student fee sheet with this mailing. To access our school’s annual calendar, please go to www.langleychristian.com.
Pray that God will bless our communal effort to make LCS a place where each person is valued and where God is honoured.
Blessings,
Peter Roukema
