After having had the incredible experience of learning French through French Immersion in Alberta, and then attending a Christian High School, I entered university with the dream and goal of teaching French in a Christian school and having students be able to speak it well.I graduated from TWU (with courses from UofA, SFU and elsewhere) with a BA in Music, French and Education and a BEd with specialties in French-as-a-Second-Language and Music. I also met my now husband Tim at TWU.I had a privilege of teaching for a short time before being blessed with children. In order to nurture them in their infancy and preschool years, I shifted work-paths for 9 years and served at our church in coordinating our Worship Ministry. Now our home bustles with 5 energetic school-aged kids and I had the opportunity to return to the classroom in Fall 2010.It is a joy to teach in such a wonderful community and am thrilled at the solid foundation for second-language learning that is established in our elementary and middle schools. My dream of teaching immersively in a Christian school is coming true!I also count it a real privilege to coordinate our weekly High School Chapels. It is a gift to be part of a vibrant, worshipping, learning community. - David Harris

Theatre Performance, Acting 9 /10, Acting 11/12Hi there! My name is Deb Jarvis and I'm the LCHS drama teacher. I teach Grade 9-12 drama. I also direct the school play that goes up in April (are you coming?? You should!!). I've been teaching here since 2002 and love getting to talk about drama all day. What a treat!
I went to Trinity Western University and University of Ottawa for my education, and have continued to develop my skills through workshops, courses and activities outside of work.Drama's a great course to take, you learn more about yourself, about the world, and about how to present yourself to others (scared of talking in front of a crowd? Start small in a drama class)! Theatre, in all its areas, is a real passion of mine, and I love teaching students who love it too! Outside of school, I direct plays. I'm involved in our church's drama activities, I've written short scripts, I do photography with my wonderful husband and I hang out with my beautiful daughter.

PE 9, PE 10, PE 11/12, Law 12This year I am teaching Physical Education 9-12 and Law 12. After teaching for a year in both Richmond and Abbotsford, Langley Christian became my home. I taught here since 2004
While attending TWU from 1998-2002, I had the opportunity to play on the volleyball team. This experience and the love for the sport has allowed me to step in as coach of the Sr. Boys volleyball team.
Even though I attended TWU for four years, most of my education came from four summers of tree planting in Northern BC. If only Tree Planting could be a unit in PE getting exercise and going green at the same time!

Biology 12, Pre-Calc Math 11, Physics 11, AW Math 11, Earth Science 11I teach Biology 12, Pre-Calc Math 11, Physics 11, AW Math 11 and Earth Science 11
I also enjoy the opportunity to support LCS students as a spectator of our athletics, music and drama programs.
I started my teaching career in the early 1980’s, but took a couple of decades off to raise four amazing (and now mostly adult) children.
I graduated with a B.Sc. degree from UBC in 1978, got married in 1979, and then returned to school (SFU) for my teaching certification. I’ve taken additional course work in Mathematics from the Open Learning University and further teacher training courses at TWU.
My favorite part about working at LCS is interacting with students while communicating about subjects I love. It is a blessing to work daily with these unique students, my multi-talented colleagues and the members of our school community.
In my free time I love to be physically active, to spend time with my family, to read and complete word puzzles. I am also a keen observer of Western culture (ie I watch reality TV).

High School Principal
I am currently in my third (and last) year as prinicpal of LCS High School where I am honoured to serve. My duties include supporting students and staff, liaising with parents, curriculum coordination, and a myriad of other administrative duties. I am enjoying my 39th year in the field of education. Four of our five children are LCS alumnae, our oldest daughter graduating with LCS' first class of 1999. I received a B Ed from Calvin College in Michigan and a M. Ed from Dordt College in Iowa. With a secondary teaching training, my first teaching position was a grade 4,5 and 6 class in Ontario. Arriving in BC in 1976, my main teaching areas have been French and Social Studies, although I dabbled in a number of other subject areas as well. Since arriving at LCS in 1997, I have also served as Guidance Counselor and Assistant Principal. I enjoy LCS as a vibrant learning community where a common educational vision is shared, and where students are encouraged and challenged to be the Christ followers they were intended to be.

LCS to me is like family: a redeemed mess of tragedy and comedy, all working towards that central goal of glorifying God in everything we do.

Assistant Principal & Learning Assistance Coordinator
After completing my degree at the University of Victoria, my husband and I moved to Japan and began to teach English. We enjoyed it so much that we stayed there for five years. We returned to Canada to start our family and when my youngest son entered Mrs. VanBrummelen's kindergarten class in 2000, I was hired part-time to teach high school ESL. I later became the HS Learning Assistance Coordinator and the ESL Coordinator for K-12.Over the next few years, along with coordinating these programs, I taught Communications 9, 10, 11 and 12, English 11, and coordinated the infamous Portfolio course. Currently, I am the Assistant Principal and Learning Assistance Coordinator for the High School. I am also working on my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership at Trinity Western University, and I am really appreciating how applicable, and immediately useful, what I am learning there is to my job.
My favorite part of working at LCS is the wonderful community in which I get to work and live. I love being a connection point for parents who have questions about what is happening with their children at LCS and welcome emails, phone calls and visits!
