The successful applicant will fill an important instructional leadership role at LCS as the key leader of our high school and will work closely with the head of schools as a member of our campus-wide, strategic leadership team. REQUIREMENTS

  • Evidence of involvement in a local Christian faith community
  • Master’s degree in Instruction, Educational Leadership, Special Education, or equivalent 
  • Previous administrative experience and/or experience designing and leading professional development 
  • Strong understanding of social emotional learning and inclusive practices 
  • Strong knowledge of high impact assessment and instructional practices 
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, inclusive work environment 
  • Strong managerial skills and financial/budget experience
  • Experience in managing and promoting system change
  • Evidence of courage, integrity, transparency and honesty in relationships

As our Director of Instruction you will be responsible for collaborating with campus principals in developing our school-wide professional growth plan, implementing our instructional guidelines, coaching and mentoring staff, designing effective professional development and ensuring high quality universal supports and differentiation for our most vulnerable learners. 

Educational Leadership: 

  • Design and implement evidence-based I.E.P. planning 
  • Transition planning for students with diverse needs including Kindergarten transition for low incidence students
  • Support the planning and implementing of universal design for learning (UDL) in K-12 classrooms 
  • Supervise and evaluate campus-based learning support services staff  
  • Support and mentor administrators, teachers and professional staff with program development for students with ministry designations
  • Design and coordinate professional development for K-12 instructional and support staff 
  • Develop supportive networks and relationships with POPEY, SET-BC, Safe Schools BC, FISA, SCSBC, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Children and Family Development and other partners  
  • Work with local partners to maximize outreach and support for parents of children with diverse needs and challenges in the community 

Strategic Leadership: 

  • Support human resources staff and principals in recruiting and hiring special education staff  
  • Collect data, evaluate and monitor effectiveness of special education programming 
  • Assist principals and resource staff in designing and implementing multi-tiered classroom support system 
  • Establish school-based teams on each campus and collaboratively work with principals to determine and monitor student support allocation 
  • Develop and monitor student safety protocols and train staff in creating behavioural support plans and safety plans
  • Special projects and other duties as required by the LCS Head of School 

PREFERED REQUIREMENTS

  • Evidence of commitment to the Christian faith 
  • Master’s degree in Instruction, Educational Psychology or Special Education, or equivalent 
  • Previous administrative leadership experience 
  • Experiencing designing and leading professional development 
  • Strong Learning Support teaching background and practical experience with inclusive practices at elementary, middle and secondary 
  • Expertise in early learning, literacy instruction and assessment practices 
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, inclusive work environment 
  • Strong managerial skills and financial/budget experience
  • Experience in managing system change
  • Training in restorative practices 
  • Evidence of courage, integrity, transparency and honesty in relationships

Typically, an Educational Assistant will:

  • be an advocate for students and their needs
  • maintain confidentiality

  • provide support to the student individually or in small groups in the classroom and/ or outside the classroom in the least intrusive environment for students and peers

  • participate in school-based team meetings
  • assist in adapting situations, environment, materials, and activities so that the student can be successful
  • implement the planned strategies and activities for the student in the classroom
  • assist in developing and implementing a behaviour support plan, when necessary
  • consult with classroom teachers and/or Special Education & Learning Assistance Coordinator to receive feedback and suggestions
  • keep anecdotal records, work samples etc. to document student progress and history
  • contribute to student evaluation by providing written and verbal input such as anecdotal records, work samples, and progress report
  • work with community professionals and consultants, when required
  • provide personal care and/or implement physical safety measures, when required
  • implement therapy (OT, PT, SLP) programs for students when required
  • supervise students during non-instructional times
  • volunteer for extra-curricular activities within the school

Specific training in working with students with special needs, such as an Educational Assistant Certificate (or equivalent) is preferred.  Experience and/or further training in supporting students with autism or FASD, and personal care needs, or other learning differences is an asset.  The successful applicant must also consent to, or provide a copy of a valid criminal record check

 This is a full-time position at the high school campus beginning March 2020.

REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Evidence of involvement in a local Christian faith community
  • Master’s degree in Instruction, Educational Leadership, Special Education, or equivalent 
  • Understanding of revised BC curriculum, core competencies and First Peoples Principles of Learning 
  • Previous administrative experience and/or experience designing and leading professional development is preferred 
  • Strong understanding of social emotional learning and inclusive practices 
  • Evidence of exceptional practices in balanced literacy and numeracy instruction K-5 
  • Strong knowledge of high impact assessment and instructional practices 
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, inclusive work environment 
  • Strong managerial skills and financial/budget experience
  • Experience in managing and promoting system change
  • Evidence of courage, integrity, transparency and honesty in relationships 
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal communication, organizational, leadership, conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills
